New Academy Esates/URIAH

New Academy Estates/URIAH is a MassIMPACT affiliated NNC set up to primarily serve the residents of the new Academy Estates. It also extends it services to other residents and programs in the Lower Roxbury area of Boston . The primary focus of the Center is using technology to develop mind, voice and soul. To fulfill this purpose the Center operates a number of regular programs including Digital Storytelling, Digital Music, Building Computers, Homework Assistance, and Community Open Access, as well as customized workshops and specialized programming. To support its operations, the Center houses a networked lab and special teaching classroom, as well as open community space, supported by near state-of-the- art computer equipment.

Since opening its doors as URIAH Tech at the old Academy Homes II development in 1998, the Center has served a population of over 400 participants. The Center will continue to have a strong focus on Digital Music to help guide our youth to successful careers in the music industry. As well, the Center will continue to use Digital Storytelling as a means of engaging youth and adults in sharing their stories and experiences with others. The Center will also continue to support participants with their academic and work-related development.
