Camfield Estates Technology Center

The Camfield Estates Technology, a MassIMPACT affiliated Neighborhood Network Center, is a resident governed technology learning lab focused on bringing innovative and high-impact technological training and instruction to residents in the lower Roxbury area of Boston. The
Center has many collaborations to support its strong digital media program, focusing on Digital Storytelling and Digital Music. In addition, the Center serves as CISCO Network Academy, affording lower Roxbury residents the opportunity to receive CCNA instruction at nominal cost.

The Center, started in 1999 as part of the MassHousing's Demonstration/Disposition program, has received many commendations during its existence. Since opening its doors, the Center has served over 700 participants, offering up a selection of courses and programs in A+ prep, Academic Assistance, Computer Networking, Internet Operations, Digital Media, Job Productivity, Community Open Access, Operating Systems, and Computer Animation.

Today, the Center enjoys a strong cadre of collaborations that allow it to effectively reach beyond its original focus of Camfield Estates residents. It maintains affiliations with CISCO, MassIMPACT, MIT, the Berklee School of MUSIC, Northeastern University, and a host of other local institutions.

Members actively use the center to create websites for businesses, gain the instruction needed to enter a technical field, create and record music for personal and professional use, enhance office productivity skills, etc. The Center has and continues to play an active part in moving one community forward to better tomorrow.
