SMS Technology Center’s advisors state that technology is not a substitute for excellent teaching and solid learning—rather, it is a tool that can be used to build increased literacy, strengthen inter-generational ties, and prevent teen violence, as well as teach the other basic skills necessary for successful, independent living and leadership in our information society.

SMSNNTC is home of the Generations Empowering Themselves Academy. The G.E.T. Academy seeks to ensure that SMS residents and the surrounding community are cognizant of, comprehend and utilize technology and technological services to support learning, growth, development and productivity through technological access. This Plan will demonstrate the facets of building a training model that supports how and when we use computers in our daily lives, while also stressing the acquisition of social skills that make today’s leaders effective. Even though this Plan does not have a designated shelf life, we will plot for the future as we assume the use of technology will continue to substantially influence the manner in which our residents develop.
