Board of Directors
Born in Panama City , Florida , Cassie Hannah Farmer moved to Boston in September of 1976. She is the President of New World Security Associates, Inc., a Boston based security guard service company she co-founded with Roberta Adams in 1990.
Farmer graduated from Florida A & M University, Tallahassee, Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1974. Upon arriving in Boston her first job was in banking at State Street Bank & Trust where she handled briefs and verified loan. After a year or so in banking, she worked in the insurance industry at a Connecticut General Life Insurance Company group sales office in an administrative/service capacity.
While working full time at Connecticut General Life Insurance, Cassie enrolled at Suffolk University in the Masters in Business Administration program. She received her MBA in 1982.
In the early 80s, Farmer directed a federally funded college preparatory program for high school students (Upward Bound) at Bridge Fund, Inc.
Though she enjoyed the challenges that came with her job as Director of Upward Bound, Farmer still had an unfulfilled passion: to teach in a classroom setting. So in the mid eighties, she joined the Boston School system as a Mathematics Instructor, a career she held for five years.
In 1988, Farmer accepted a part time job with Bismiallah Security Associates, Inc. as the President of the company. An area where she had no aspiration, knowledge or experience, this was her induction into the security industry. For several years she had been sought after by its founder to join them and revamp the company by identifying and resolving its internal problems. In early 1990, Bismiallah Security went out of business. At that point, Farmer resolved to remain in the industry. After having tried her hands at several other short-lived businesses, she viewed this as just another test of her endurance and entrepreneurial skills. After some consultation, she joined forces with Roberta Adams, who was then Vice President of Bismiallah. They pooled their funds to start New World Security in May, 1990.
In late 1991, because business was slow and funds short, she sought employment outside the business. Taking advantage of her experience as an educational program administrator, she applied for and won a directorship position at Boston University 's(BU) college preparatory program. She worked at BU by day and extended her workday into the evenings and weekends at New World Security. This went on for a couple of years. The business began to grow and she found it difficult to manage the challenges of the two very demanding positions. With sadness she resigned her position at BU in November 1993 and began to work the business full time. Over (13) years after its founding, Farmer, Adams and their employees are still enduring and facing the challenges of businesses in the intercity.
New World Security has won numerous awards and recognition for its growth, job creation and contribution to economic development in the community. Among them include the Small Business Administration Small Business Person for the Year Award for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and inaugural listing on Inc.'s Magazine/ICIC Inner City 100. In 2001, Cassie received an Outstanding Alumni Service Award from her alma mater Suffolk University 's Sawyer School of Management Graduate Alumni Association
